STYLEMAKERS; Marlene Stewart: Costume Designer: Marlene Stewart, a 38-year-old costume designer based in Los Angeles who has designed clothes for the singer’s videos, tours - and wedding - since 1984.
They met when Madonna needed a stylist for the ”Material Girl” video, and since then Ms. Stewart has engineered kaleidoscopic transformations, from biker to siren, from blonde to brunette. Ms. Stewart had been designing sexy black-lace party dresses. ”When I met Madonna, I finally met someone who was wearing black lace, what I was making all the time,” she said. For Madonna’s second tour, she had 12 costume changes. For the song ”Open Your Heart,” she wore black fishnet hose and her signature black bustier, which Ms. Stewart adorned with gold pasties and tassels. ”I heard it has gone into the bra museum at Frederick’s of Hollywood,” the designer said.
